Earlier this year, Gold was the go to color. Our tried and true watermelon must be dated as no fish would touch it. So I started playing around and using a bat jig with a keeper, I tried flash on the collar and head color was a non issue, the 20 or so strands of flash made a mega difference and with the gold head was an outstanding producer (these were tipped with a nightcrawler). It still works but blades, Hopkins and Kastmaster spoons are starting to work so no more worm dirt for me.

Anyhow, I played a bit and came up with a few multi-species jigs using the same head without a keeper.

The following pics are both 1/16 Bat jig w/o keeper, Chartreuse Deer hair tail, Cactus Chenille Body (one is a pearl Body and the other is a chartreuse body) With hold flash tied as a neck hackle over the body. Jig has an incredible amount of action.

Sorry my pic quality is not great

What's a keeper?

In this case, its a wire form that is cast in place and the keeper refers to a barb that holds your bait in place.
