I realized that the GFA Hoppers, size 8, that I normally fish are just to big for the size of the Bluegills that have been hitting my flies. Tied up some size 14 on TMC 2302 hooks. I added the pink strike indicator, as I was having troubles seeing the hoppers while fishing from my kayak. The bug with the copper Krystal Flash was the first one, I decided I didn't like the color (don't have a brown color Krystal Flash), so I omitted it in the following bugs.

Nice Allen - You find out proportions real quick the smaller you go, and those look nicely balanced. If you find you're getting short strikes, thin the tail out a little.

Thanks Fatman. You can't really see the hooks very well in that pic. They're a 3xl curved shank. Yeah, it's a size 14 bend, but that long shank puts the hook point towards the back, much more so than the size 8's I was tying. The few times I fished those, I never missed a strike.

I like those! Smallest hook I have is size 12. Will be trying them real soon. Thanks for sharing! Gives me something to work up to!

Thanks gents!

HMK, I have to wear reading glasses now for all my "up-close" detail work. All tying, cleaning up jigs, painting, etc....

Well, I got out for about an hour today at the pond where I work. Used my 5wt. Did a Hopper/Dropper combo, with one of the yellow size 14 GFA Hoppers, and a size 16 Pheasant Tail soft hackle. Caught 4 or 5. Caught two on the Hopper, the rest were on the PT.
