I caught the white bass my last trip to local river, just under 3#. Hair jigs catch everything depending on size. Mostly tying baits with fox lately, even caught two grass carp with them a couple weeks ago.
I've been making these almost three years and yes, they do catch fish. Main colors resemble bait fish like bluegill , green sunfish, etc. that bigger fish eat. When I tie I use similar colors in the jigs.
The Victory hooks work ok on the panfish side of things but for bigger fish like bass and hybrid stripers I have more confidence in Gamakatsu, Owner and Mustads. Still afraid to use the more expensive Victory hooks after breaking several at the hook eye. May have been a bad batch but I won't be...
I recently got this mold for soft plastics but I took one look and knew it would take a 90 degree hook so poured some of those as well. Tied some 1/8 on a #1 Mustad Ultrapoint hook. Shad and bluegill pattern for starters. Like getting two molds for the price of one.
Gamakatsu puts out a SINGLE LURE HOOK, CODE#329408. Has a big eye so won't be a problem. Decoy makes a stinger hook in size 2 that will work as well. I found both on ebay and used them for spoons and actually dressed the hooks. These spoons are 1.25" and weigh 1/16 oz.
Big zero on the hybrids this year. Way behind in rain here this year. Normally the hybrids come up from the Mississippi River into the river I fish after heavy rains but we are in a bit of a drought this year and didn't get the rain.
